Researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital have developed a novel method for treating subjects at risk for HS/R by administering Heparin Binding-Epidermal Growth Factor (HB-EGF). Administration of HB-EGF protects intestinal epithelial and endothelial cells from HS/R-induced injury in a rat model.
