Lip Guard/Retractor DeviceThe LabraGuard lip retractor device intends to prevent injury during oral surgery. The unique design allows independent functioning of each segment for improved patient outcomes. The LabraGuard is designed to prevent oral injuries by retracting the lips during procedures such as a tonsillectomy, transoral surgery or adenoidectomy. Two narrow connecting pieces fit into each of the three parts of the guard, which allows each segment to function independently. This prevents any harmful or unnecessary movement of the right and left segments. Due to the S-shaped connecting pieces, the three main segments can move in different planes without obstructing the surgeon’s view and reach. To prevent pressure injuries, the central island piece may be placed around a retractor or upon the upper lip. The upper lip segment may be secured with a catheter, for example, and the central piece will provide a barrier between the skin and catheter. The flanges on the inner portion of the lateral pieces release pressure when an instrument applies a medial force, securing each commissure in place by flipping towards the source of the pressure. Additionally, the commissure segments can be removed so that there’s no central island. These pieces could be secured on one or both sides of the mouth. |
